The Benefits of Semi-Electric Hospital Beds

Sturdy, durable and built for heavy-duty usage, a semi-electric bed provides ease of use not only for the patient, but for care personnel as well. Some of the highlights, features and benefits of a semi-electric hospital bed include:

Easy to assemble and disassemble

This is important for staff so they can put it together or take it apart quickly when setting up rooms for different patients. They are also lightweight compared to full electric beds, rendering them easier to assemble and disassemble, as they have a single motor design.

Frame construction provides superior strength and durability

The reinforced frame resists twisting and bending, while some models feature reinforced connector brackets to reduce sag, and extra gussets to provide additional strength. Several configurations highlight receiver bracket mounts on the frame to eliminate the need for cross braces. These beds may have reinforced head sections which reduces the risk of torquing and provides additional support. Some beds accommodate weights up to 450 lbs to ensure safety and comfort for larger patients, while others may offer longer lengths for taller patients.

Motor and bed control pendants

Semi-electric hospital beds include motor control pendants that attach to the bed, to raise and lower the head and foot section. The height may be adjusted manually or with electric power, depending on the model. Some control units light up for easier visibility in the dark.
These powered beds feature emergency hand cranks in case of electrical failure, or battery backup. The motors that move the bed are typically very quiet, and dual motors may be available on some models.

Head and foot boards

Head and foot boards for semi-electric hospital beds may include high impact composite end panels. Some are made to fit other model beds. The foot board may weigh 50% less in some beds for easier transport.

Other options for semi-electric hospital beds

1. Full or half-length side rails, which help to prevent falls
2. Safety lock slides for enhanced security
3. Trapezes for patients that need assistance sitting up
4. Mattresses, may be spring, foam, pressure relief/alternating pressure, gel or air
5. Bedding may be available for purchase
6. Warranties may be available on the frame and/or the electrical components
