The Posey Wireless Infrared Alarm is a motion detector; use it in locations with residents who are prone to wander or at risk of falls. Use it above a door, beside a stairway or a bed, or in other areas. When a resident passes through the infrared beam of light from the alarm, the infrared beam detects the motion, making the alarm go off. The Posey Wireless Infrared Alarm should not be aimed directly at a patient's bed, or used in areas that see frequent travel. Not a fall detector.
