Carts and racks are a widely important addition to any facility, helping to keep supplies organized while still allowing them to be easily accessible wherever they’re needed. A variety of designs accommodate any and every facility as well as a wide range of user needs, supporting all your equipment and supplies in a neat and organized fashion.

How to Choose:

In order to select the best cart for your needs, it’s important to consider a variety of construction and design features that may help inform your decision.

  • Storage Capacity - Depending on what supplies you’re wanting to use your cart to store and transport, the capacity of the shelves and the cart as a whole may be an important consideration. Larger shelves, a taller cart, or greater width may be important to accommodate your equipment but make your cart less maneuverable, so keep in mind your needs and preferences when shopping for your ideal cart.
  • Shelf Size - Smaller or larger shelves may be preferable depending on the supplies or equipment your cart is intended to carry. Larger shelves might be better for bulkier pieces, while smaller shelves would be better for mail or more delicate items.
  • Security - Items like medical charts, hazardous chemicals, or even expensive equipment might require some measure of security depending on the facility your cart will be used in. Some carts include locking shelves or drawers that can keep these items secured away from potential tampering.
  • Weight Capacity - Carts intended to carry large or heavy equipment require a higher weight capacity to ensure the safe transport of your supplies. More durable constructions and a higher weight capacity are ideal for tasks requiring the cart to carry a large load, while more lightweight carts are better for smaller, less intense tasks.
  • Dimensions - Depending on your facilities design and needs, the dimensions of the cart might be very important. Smaller facilities, those with tight corners and doorways, and those with limited storage space should consider the exact dimensions of their intended navigable area and storage space before selecting a cart.
  • Casters - More important even that the storage space on the cart are the wheels or casters. These pieces are what keep a cart from just being a shelf or cabinet, allowing them to traverse easily over many surfaces to move from place to place. In order to select the right cart for your needs, consider the flooring in your facility, the type of movement you need your casters to be capable of, and whether or not you need the casters to lock. Each of these factors will contribute to helping you choose the right casters and subsequently the right cart.
