Dr. Chris Jacobs, PhD

Over the course of his 40-year career in biomedical engineering, Chris Jacobs has dealt with wide variety of medical issues - devoted to helping others, he has used technologically advanced devices such as the pacemaker and heart-lung machine to treat his patients. He was particularly inspired, though, by the plight of a good friend who came to him in 2006 with a common problem. The friend had begun frequently forgoing testing for his Type 2 diabetes, a dangerous habit to be sure, due to the pain caused by lancing his fingertips. Wanting, as always, to help, Chris began research on a project that would take more than a decade to complete, and would become the most important work of his life - the Genteel Lancing Device, an innovative new way to painlessly perform glucose tests.

Chris espouses his core values of integrity, quality, and curiosity throughout his work, and is proud to have helped so many people through his novel invention. A cure for diabetes probably won’t be a reality for some time, but he has given us the next best thing - a painless lancing solution that takes the stress and trauma out of glucose testing in a cost-efficient package.
