More Information

The Cylinder Pegs and Peg Board is a game that helps develop a child's hand-eye coordination, hand and finger dexterity, holding and controlling skills, math skills, and concentration.

The child will play with the peg board by taking the bigger, cylinder pegs out of the holes in the 15 ½ " by 9" game board. Once that is done, the child can be asked to do the more difficult job of putting the pegs back into the holes. This will help teach them the ability to hold small items by pinching them between their finger and thumb, providing good practice for holding a pen or pencil in the future.

After a child accomplishes this task, he can be asked to remove the inner and longer peg from inside the larger cylinder. The child will need to learn more dexterity and control to complete this new task. Once this new task can be completed, the child can sort each color into its own section, or make patterns with the colors, and then use their imagination to invent other games with the pegs. Practicing this will improve their hand-eye coordination, spatial perception, and fine motor skills.

Math skills can be improved by having toddlers put the pegs into a numbered sequence while counting them. They can also learn subtraction and addition with the use of the pegs. Using a pegboard can help generate concentration skills and independent play by manipulating the pegs in a game.

This type of peg board game is often used in therapeutic settings, schools, day care centers, and at home or on a trip.
