Caring for Patients
Within the universe of patient types, there are many whose conditions render them dependent on hospital staff for essential daily functions, such as toileting and bathing. Whether a person is severely bedridden, obese, or immobilized by a spinal injury, the Universal Rust-Resistant Mobile Shower Bed from IPU is designed to secure the comfort and dignity of every patient while simultaneously providing caregivers with a convenient, reliable method of patient transportation. Once patients have been transferred to the shower bed via hoist and sling, they can remain relaxed during the bathing process and rest assured knowing that there is no risk of slipping and falling. Hospitals and institutions that wish to enhance patient comfort can opt to purchase an elevating headrest. When the hygiene care is complete, caregivers can easily drain the bathwater, dry the patient, and transfer the patient back to his or her room.

Caring for Caregivers
Each year thousands of caregivers working in the healthcare industry are injured as a result of the physical hazards associated with patient handling. These incidents increase in proportion to the increasing number of patients who are elderly or obese. While biomechanical protocols may help to prevent caregiver injuries in some instances, research frequently shows that these methods are not as effective as implementing the use of proper transfer equipment. This is especially the case when patient care involves bathing and showering, during which slippery conditions can quickly nullify the success of biomechanical procedures. Enter the Universal Rust-Resistant Mobile Shower Bed. At just over three feet tall, this shower bed elevates the patient to a height that allows caregivers to focus on providing hygiene care without overburdening their bodies, while locking casters help to keep the bed stabilized during the process.

Highlights & Features
Constructed of rust-proof PVC and supported by four or six (5-inch diameter) casters from Tente, the Universal Rust-Resistant Mobile Shower Bed is a sturdy, lightweight, and well-balanced medical device designed to provide caregivers with a reliable method of patient transportation when patients are unable to stand independently or sit up in a traditional shower chair. Each caster is individually lockable so that the device can be stabilized during the bathing process -- though of course caregivers must still remain vigilant while working on wet surfaces. The Universal Rust-Resistant Mobile Shower Bed's side rails can be lowered to enable both patient transfer and patient access. Then the bed can be converted into a sealed, water-tight enclosure to serve as a self-contained bathtub. Caregivers are then able to bathe their patients with ease without having to stoop or lift in ways that could lead to injuries. The sonic welded slant pad with slide and end flaps will allow the bathwater to drain out through the attached hose.

The Universal Rust-Resistant Mobile Shower Bed is available into two different base models built to hold patients of varying weights. Model USG1000 has a maximum weight capacity of 350 lb., while the slightly larger model USG1200 can accommodate patients weighing up to 500 lb.

Cleaning & Maintenance
Because the Universal Rust-Resistant Mobile Shower Bed is intended for the maintenance of patient hygiene, repeated usage will require caregivers to ensure that the device remains clean and free of damage. Monthly safety checks should be conducted to identify possible hairline fractures and to ensure that pipe junctures are securely fitted. The shower bed should never be subjected to temperatures falling below 40 degrees or exceeding 140 F. Cushions, pipes, and fittings can be cleaned with in-house disinfectant after each use; though solvent-based and abrasive cleaners should be avoided.
