What is a talking scale?

A talking scale is a measuring device used by those with vision impairments to weigh themselves. It works just like a traditional bathroom scale, but reads the measurement out loud to you in a clear voice instead of you having to read it off the display.

Many talking scales have a language option for English, Spanish, French or German, and often give you the option to choose between pounds or kilograms, so no matter what your culture or your preference, you have an easy option for health and weight tracking.

Just like other low vision aids, talking scales are functional and easy to use for people living with low vision of all levels. To accommodate those individuals with low hearing as well, many of these scales also offer increased volume to make use easier. And, if you no longer need or want the voice readout function, it can be easily turned off.
