Product Overview:

If you have limited or impaired mobility and rely on using a manual wheelchair to get around, have you ever gotten tired of the constant propulsion needed? Do you wish that you could take your wheelchair on journeys that reach as far as the beach or mountains? With the GRIT Freedom Chair, you no longer have to cut corners on any of life's adventures.

So, how does it work?
The GRIT Freedom Chair utilizes lever propulsion to move and is lever-driven to minimize strain on the rider's upper body and arms. To move forward, simply push the levers forward and you're on your way. When you want to stop, you can brake by pulling all the way back on the levers until they touch the tires. The levers also manipulate the turns; braking one wheel on the GRIT Freedom Chair will rotate the chair in that direction. If you're concerned about getting stuck (especially on rugged mountain trails or sandy beaches), the GRIT Freedom Chair's sturdy front wheel has you covered. It's heavily treaded and large in size, enabling it to get you out of nearly any obstacle you may come across.

Will the GRIT Freedom Chair work for me?
So long as you're able to manipulate pushing and pulling the chair's levers, you'll be able to navigate the GRIT Freedom Chair! This wheelchair is actually easier to propel since riders don't need to possess a ton of upper body strength or push their own chair using push-rims. In fact, a number of riders who can't use traditional push-rim manual wheelchairs succeed in using the GRIT Freedom Chair.
Notice: This unique custom fabricated item is made-to-order using a "Just in Time" manufacturing process. This is designed to keep your cost lower, but may require an additional 2-4 week lead time before your product ships.

What's the difference?
  • The Standard Drivetrain is for individuals who will be accompanied by a caregiver or assistant 100% of the time, and who are more interested in scenery than speed.
  • The Upgraded Drivetrain is for those wanting to primarily ride on pavement or sidewalks, and who are using their GRIT Freedom Chair for fitness or racing - especially athletes! The Upgraded Drivetrain is also perfect for people who are riding alongside friends and family instead of being pushed.
  • Wheel Upgrades
  • The GRIT Freedom Chair comes standard with Mountain Bike Wheels, which are ideal for use on outdoor terrains like dirt, grass, cobblestones, and pavement. These are a great choice for all-around performance.

    More Information

With the GRIT Freedom Chair, you can keep up with any adventure easier than ever before. This rugged all-terrain wheelchair enables users to explore their world without compromising safety or accessibility, and provides a comprehensive upper body workout at the same time!

The GRIT Freedom Chair was designed by MIT engineers and boasts an innovative lever propulsion system that's nearly twice as physically efficient as a standard manual wheelchair. When you need more torque and control, simply manipulate the top of the levers; alternatively, if you need to move quickly and efficiently on flat surfaces like bike paths, you'll want to grab ahold of the base of the levers. This lever propulsion system is adept at traversing difficult terrains, including dirt, grass, and sand, but also expertly navigates paved terrain like sidewalks and roads.

Disassembly is quick and efficient, thanks to the GRIT Freedom Chair's many quick-release parts like its footrest, wheels, and seat back. In fact, this all-terrain wheelchair can be disassembled in as little as 1 minute, with the heaviest piece weighing just 25 lbs. Additionally, with its ability to effortlessly disassemble, the GRIT Freedom Chair can easily fit into the trunks of most cars, including subcompacts and coupes.

When creating the GRIT Freedom Chair, the designers wanted riders to be able to change out any and all components that needed to be exchanged without the hassle associated with proprietary parts. Because of this, all of the GRIT Freedom Chair's moving components are bike parts, which allows users to customize their rig to their heart's content as well as easily maintain faulty, broken, or missing parts.
