Caribou Prone and Supine Standing Frame

The Caribou Prone and Supine Standing Frame is designed to help individuals with a variety of conditions achieve and maintain an upright position. Supine users who have poor head and trunk control will rest their back against the frame and then tilt up to the most upright position they can manage without their head falling forward. Prone users will rest their front against the frame and stand fully upright or slightly tilted forward, keeping the spine extended and allowing them to maintain most of the weight bearing. Both of these positions can bring users the benefits of standing, such as improving hip development, increasing bone density, preventing contractures, reducing spasticity, encouraging cardiopulmonary function, and generally facilitating better psychological wellbeing.

The Caribou can be manually or electrically powered and is capable of tilting from 0 to 87 degrees, making the frame suitable for lateral transfers as it can lie completely horizontal; both the manual and powered models use a simple foot pedal to adjust tilt, allowing caregivers to keep both hands free. A variety of interchangeable accessories are available to customize the chair to meet the users unique needs; these include positioning aids such as knee pads, headrest extensions, side supports, and safety straps, as well as functional aids such as a detachable tray with compatible toy bar and armrests.

Durable yet forgiving polyurethane makes up the resting platform and positional accessories, providing the support users need without sacrificing comfort; the water-resistant material is easy to clean and resists the cultivation of bacteria. The gentle curve guides the user to remain centered on the frame for safe and effective use, while the angle-adjustable footplate ensures they have firm footing regardless of their weight bearing capabilities.
