This activity apron is designed to help patients with diminished cognitive functioning regain some of their fine motor skills and muscle memory. The half-sized apron ties around the waist, keeping it at an easily accessible level for patients. Bright, contrasting colors and a variety of textures provide a multi-sensory experience and four different activities for patients to engage with encourage conditioning of finger dexterity and motor skills.

At the top of the half-size apron is a zipper with a long, cloth tab patients can use to practice zipping and unzipping, an action that requires finger control. The middle of the apron is taken up by two large, pocket-shaped sections of textured material designed to encourage tactile engagement.

Beneath the textured material is a series of grommets threaded with two thick cords. Patients can practice feeding the cords in and out of the grommets to work on their hand-eye coordination and also condition the fine motor skills of the fingers. The cords come from different directions and can be tied together, mimicking the process of tying shoes. Lastly, a belt-loop-like buckle sits low on the apron and can be used for a variety of applications with supplemental materials such as belts, cord or string, and cloth.
