How Compression Therapy Stockings Work

Compression stockings are designed to provide support to the legs and veins, assist with circulation, and minimize swelling. The compression is graduated, with the strongest support starting at the ankles and gradually decreasing towards the top of the garment. This gradual support works in conjunction with the pumping action of the calf muscles, which also assist with circulation.
A common myth is that compression stockings will cut off circulation. When fitted and worn properly, compression stockings help with your circulation, not reduce or restrict it.
Compression garments are categorized by classes. These classes consist of compression ranges, which are measured in mmHg---meaning millimeters of mercury, the universal form of measurement used for this type of garment. There are designated medical indications for each compression class.

To determine your size please see the measurement guides below.  When selecting a compression stocking, you must take your standard measurements as described carefully in this guide to determine what size to order.
Compare those standard measurements to the size chart to determine both the length and overall size.
Please note that if the circumference of the ankle is less than seven inches, or greater than 13.75 inches, we suggest consulting your physician for a custom compression garment.
Also note that if any of the measurements above the ankle do not fall into the same size as the ankle measurement, we also suggest consulting your physician for a custom compression garment.

How to Measure:
 Take measurements when edema is at its most reduced state, of the largest leg that requires compression.  If legs differ greatly, and both legs will be wearing compression stockings, please consult your physician first.
 Stand straight, flat-footed, without shoes while an assistant measures you for the garment.
 Write all measurements down for comparison afterwards. 
 Measure even with the floor, along the inside of the leg, up to each point for length.
 For standard measurements, begin by measuring from the floor to hips, which will be known as A-T.
 Measure from floor to top of the thigh/groin area, which will be know as A-G.
 Find the smallest circumference measurement below the knee but above the calf. Measure from that point to the floor. This length (from the floor to cD) will be known as A-D.
 At the same point cD (see above), write down the circumference that is the smallest circumference below the knee but above the calf. This will be known as D.
 Measure the circumference of the leg at the top of the thigh/groin area. This will be known as G.
 Find the largest circumference measurement of the calf. This will be known as C.
 Find the smallest circumference measurement of the ankle that is closest to and above the ankle bone.  This will be known as B. This is the most important measurement!
 You are now ready to compare all measurements to the sizing chart.  Begin with the last measurement taken which is the B ankle measurement.  The ranges are shown in the row marked B for sizes I, II, III, IV and V.
 Write down this size and continue comparing for C and G. If you desire a silicone border/banded thigh high, you will use the row marked G with silicone for that measurement.
 If either C or G do not match the size written down for B, please consult your physician for a custom fitting.
 If all measurements fall within one size range, that is your size for ordering. 
 Choose the appropriate length of garment (ie, knee high, thigh high, or full to the waist).
 The measurement of A-D will determine Regular length, Short length, or Petite length if wearing a knee high.
 The measurement of A-G will determine the length for all other garments than knee highs.
