Provale Regulating Drinking Cup

The Provale Regulating Drinking Cup is an adaptive drinking cup designed specifically for individuals who have difficulty safely swallowing thin liquids without using thickeners.

The cup is designed for people with dysphagia due to anatomical problems like obstructions or blockages, nerves of the throat, esophagus, or brain malfunctioning, or a number of related problems associated with ALS, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and cerebral palsy, as well as conditions that affect muscle function including myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy, and Sjgren½s syndrome.

The regulating drinking cup has an 8-ounce capacity but allows only a very slight amount of liquid to pass (5cc or 10cc) with each drinking motion. Research has shown that a large population of individuals living with forms of dysphagia can sip 5cc of thin liquid into their mouth at once and swallow it without difficulty, allowing the user to drink without the use of thickeners. This also enables the user to taste the liquid in its natural flavor and help preserve the dignity of those who suffer from swallowing disorders.

The cups have removable handles that give users an option for the easiest use of the cup, and a large, broad base that will limit accidental tipping or spills from a wayward elbow or hand. The cup is of a one-piece design that facilitates easier cleanup in an institutional dishwasher or by hand.
