The RiJe Cup is beneficial to those that have dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing. This can be caused by the aftermath of surgery, muscular dystrophy, cancer, esophageal stricture, and more. Trying to swallow foods and drinks normally can become painful and even dangerous. This can lead to dehydration and makes it difficult to absorb needed nutrients from drinks.
The RiJe Cup helps to dispense measured amounts of liquid. The user can then place the cup down to dispense another serving within two to three seconds. This allows the user to drink their fill without worrying about too much liquid. The RiJe Cup works with hot or cold thin liquids up to nectar consistency, either naturally thick or that have been treated with a thickener. Rotatable plugs allow the cup to dispense nectar thickened liquids up to the cup rim for drinking.
The serving amount can be adjusted within 3ml to 15ml to suit user preferences and needs using the adjusting key. A straw can be used with the cup or the liquid can be drunk directly from the cup's rim which features a nose cutout. Handles on either side of the cup help to maintain grip, especially beneficial for those with difficulty gripping or arthritis. The cup can be closed by turning the cup's base.
The RiJe Cup is made from food grade polypropylene and the sealing O-rings from food grade silicon. The cup is easy to disassemble and dishwasher safe to clean. The cup is also spill controlled, so dropping it would only spill the amount of liquid already pre-measured out.
