Why Do I Need Ergonomically Friendly Computer Equipment?

The purpose of an ergonomically friendly apparatus is to relieve the trauma associated with long-term computer use. Daily computer use or excessive gaming often results in conditions like repetitive stress injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, eye strain, hyperextended wrists, poor posture, back and posterior pain, numbness in fingers, hands and wrists, and reduced performance.

Avoidable Computer Maladies - Computer Back, Mouse Shoulder and Carpal Tunnel

The best way to avoid computer and electronic device related strains and injuries is to be proactive – purchase and use only ergonomically friendly computer equipment.

Posterior cervical dorsal syndrome – also known as computer back – is easily avoidable with the proper ergonomically designed, molded lumbar back support cushions. These amazing little back-saving cushions sit in the small of your back while you work at your computer, gently adjusting your slouchy computer posture and providing relief from lower back pain.

Mouse shoulder is a recent phenomenon. Mouse shoulder occurs when a person unnaturally elevates their arm and shoulder to accommodate an improperly positioned or incorrectly-sized mouse. The consequence is shoulder and back soreness and pain. If left untreated, mouse shoulder can lead to rotator cuff injury.

Carpal Tunnel syndrome is the compression of a nerve as it passes through the wrist. Repetitive keyboarding and gaming can create stiff, painful wrists and lead to carpal tunnel symptoms. Carpal Tunnel syndrome can be caused or exacerbated by the finger, hand and wrist movement associated with computer and electronic device use. The result is stinging, tingling, numbness, pain and weakness in the affected hand and wrist.

What Kind of Ergonomic Equipment Is Right for Me?

If you are already experiencing back, shoulder, hand or arm pain while working at your computer, gaming or socializing on-line, minimize your discomfort by switching to ergonomically-friendly equipment now.

● Lumbar pillows help you adopt the correct sitting posture while working at your desktop or laptop computer.
● Laptop Stands allow you to work while standing and give your posterior a break.
● Gel Keyboard Wrist Rests support your wrists and allow you to avoid prolonged repetitive finger and wrist extension while keeping your wrists straight.
● Slipper Mouse or Foot Mouse assistive technology, with a programmable pedal board, is the most ergonomic mouse on the market. This unique computer equipment allows you to use your feet for hands-free computing.
● Ergonomic Mice are smaller and color-coded to help users who may suffer from visual impairment, hand, finger or joint issues. Ergonomic mice feel more comfortable in your hand. People with stiff hands, due to arthritis and other disabilities, find them easier to manipulate than standard mice. They eliminate the scroll wheel, which makes them easier to control.
● Ergonomic mice are also perfect for young children who may be learning button function or lack complete mastery of right and left directions.
● Bluetooth keyboards are ergonomically designed multimedia keyboards that allow users to conveniently and comfortably communicate wirelessly with their desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

Adjust and Move

In addition to purchasing only ergonomically designed computer, laptop and tablet equipment, there are several ways that you can minimize the strain, fatigue and injuries associated with electronic device use. The appropriate mouse will help minimize awkward shoulder and hand movements, but you can also adjust your environment to make sure that your equipment is properly positioned.

Arrange your workstation so that you don’t have to stretch or reach for what you need.

Relax, sit tall and if you are right-handed, left mouse for a change. If you are left-handed, try using your right hand to mouse.

Rest your wrist on a gel keyboard wrist rest every time you take your hand off of your mouse.

Exercise at your desk; roll your eyes, flex your feet, slowly rotate your neck, squeeze your shoulders, drop and shake your hands and arms, flex and curl your toes.

Our ergonomic computer equipment and a few small adjustments to your work space and routine are the best solutions to the stresses, strains and injuries that often accompany normal, daily interactions with our computers, electronic devices and equipment.
