What are Erectile Dysfunction Pumps?

Erectile dysfunction pumps, also called vacuum constriction devices or penis pumps are used to help attain and maintain erections in men who are having problems with impotence. An ED pump consists of a tube which fits over the penis with one or more constriction bands. A hand pump or battery-powered pump removes the air from the tube and creates a vacuum that forces blood into the penis. This causes an erection that can be maintained through the use of a constriction band at the base of the penis.

Vacuum erection devices can be helpful to those who experience erectile dysfunction because of diabetes, post-prostate surgery, or poor blood flow to the penis. These pumps, generally, are an effective ED treatment that is also cost-effective and non-invasive, unlike other ED treatments like implant surgery or medications. The pumps can also be used in conjunction with implants or medications.

The use of an ED pump is a simple process. First, the pump is placed on the penis, then the pump is used to force blood into the penis to create an erection. When the user slides the constriction band down to the base of the erect penis, the erection can be sustained for sexual intercourse.

There are some potential side effects with the use of erectile dysfunction pumps, such as the erection being purple or cold with some numbness. There can also be bruising at the base of the penis which is caused by the constriction band. Some users have reported that ED pumps make ejaculation difficult because the constriction band may prevent semen from being released. When this happens, the ejaculate can normally come out when the band is taken off.

Hand-powered ED pumps are as effective in achieving erections as battery-powered pumps. However, battery-powered pumps may create an erection quicker and can be simpler to use for men who have limited hand strength. Sometimes, penis pumps are advertised for reasons other than achieving erections, such as increasing the girth and length of a penis. However, there is no medical evidence to support these claims, and doctors warn against using pumps for penis enlargement because overuse can potentially injure the penis.

Rehabmart is pleased to carry innovative and efficacious erectile dysfunction pumps from one of our esteemed medical vendors, Independence Medical.
