Product Overview:

The Rolyan Synergy Thermoplastic Splint Aid is a medical device used to stabilize, protect and support injures such as sprains, strains, and fractures. What makes a thermoplastic splint different from a plaster cast is that it½s made of a lighter material that can easily be molded to custom fit the injured body part, while it can also be removed by the user or caregiver for hygiene and bathing requirements. Additionally, since the splint is plastic and not plaster of Paris, if the user has to keep the splint on, it can be taken into the shower or bath.

More Information

The Rolyan Synergy Thermoplastic Splint Aid can quickly be fitted to the patient by softening the splint in hot water and then placing it directly on the patient's injured area. As it hardens, it will form a perfect conformation of the contour of the patient's body. Another advantage of these thermoplastic splints is that they can be taken off and remolded to accommodate the healing changes to the body as the inflammation and swelling of the injured tissue decreases. Or, if the splint is too tight, it can be reheated and remolded for the most comfortable fit.

A thermoplastic splint doesn't cover the whole affected area and therefore might require elastic or straps to help keep it in place. This also makes it easy to remove and ideal for bathing or for physical therapies that require gentle exercise of the injured area. Yet, because the splint is plastic, it can be kept on during bathing for the security and comfort of the patient too. A thermoplastic splint can also be removed to be cleaned of sweat and stains.

These lightweight splints are ideal for patients who have a fear of being encased in a plaster of Paris cast. These splints will retain their shape without reinforcement and are ideal for use as spasticity splints, lower extremity splints, elbow and arm splints, as well as back supports and body jackets.
